I sometimes think the best license would be one that reads:
"Whatever happens, I agree not to sue you and you agree not to sue me."

For code they're using LGPL.
Well the lawyers will love that because they can spend all our revenues for
the next twenty years arguing with each other about what "linking" actually
means.

Here's a sentence that gives the average user a good feeling why closed, proprietary software (including their license models) are usually wrong:
Imagine that you bought a car and were told that the manufacturer was the only place you could get it fixed. None of your friends are allowed to use the car, and there's a good chance that it won't work on certain kinds of roads. As for customizing it: neither you nor your car-wise friends could do anything, because the hood is welded shut ...
