amixer: Mixer attach default error: No such device

[PROBLEM]
My soundcard's working perfectly, but some users get error messages when trying to do something with the soundcard. e.g.:
amixer: Mixer attach default error: No such device
[SOLUTION]
Make sure that the user that has these problems is a member of the group "audio". After adding a user to a group you must either re-login or run:

newgrp audio
Jumping out of an airplane is not a basic instinct. Neither is breathing underwater. But put the two together and you're traveling through space!
