After configuring /etc/X11/xorg.conf and trying X --configure, the X server still won't come up. The error message is

After i tried pretty much everything else and even wrote an xorg.conf file by hand, i finally found the problem: The ob-board ATI R200 Graphics had too little RAM assigned! I changed the RAM from 16 to 32MB, and voilá - starts up like everything was okay to begin with.
