Linux, SBLive & kmix: no input audio signal

[PROBLEM]
It seems that the current version (v2.6.1) of KDE's audio mixing application "kmix" cannot be used to set the recording level of capturing sources.
The levels you see when choosing the "input" tab, are in fact the "through" volume levels of input sources.
[SOLUTION]
I've used "alsamixer" instead.
[INFO]
I've verified this, by opening kmix "input" tab and alsamixer at the same time.
- In alsamixer, I chose "Capture" and changed the level for "CD". Nothing happened in kmix.
- Then I selected "playback" in alsamixer and changed the level for "CD". Now I saw the fader in kmix (Input) moving accordingly.
