How to slim the netbios crap of Windows

Post by gilthanaz »

[Problem]
Every time you use the Network Neighbourhood to look for workgroups, to connect or search on another computer on the network, windows sometimes takes AGES to show the shares/printers - great to stare 45 seconds on the screen, even tho you exactly told it where you want to go today (ha-ha). This appears to be because Windows is forcing itself to find out and try what services and stuff the remote box might run; And probably does some other useless crap. I found something helpful for that problem on the net, but i forgot where (if you are the author and would like yourself credited or linked here, mail the board admins).

[Solution]
Use regedit to open your registry, and go to:
\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\RemoteComputer\NameSpace\

There, find this key entry, and just delete it.
{D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF}

Chances are good that you now experience quiet a boost in speed when "surfing" in the network neighbourhood ...

weeeee!
