Belkin F5D6050: "phy1: at76_wait_completion failed: 7"

Post by ^rooker »

[PROBLEM]
Trying to use my old Belkin F5D6050 with Xubuntu Precise Pangolin (12.04 LTS).

I've manually copied the firmware binary blobs for at76c503a chipset to /lib/firmware.
When plugging in the Belkin USB adaptor, the right goes orange - and after a few seconds, it flickers green/orange.
Looks good.

It shows up as "wlan0", and already lists wireless networks in the area. So it seems to be working.
Somewhat.

Now, trying to connect to a network turns the flickering-green light on the Belkin back to orange.
Connection fails.

In "dmesg" output, lines like this keep repeating:
[ 8879.664471] ieee80211 phy2: at76_wait_completion failed: 7
Hm... Maybe this old adaptor isn't able to connect to a WPA/WPA2 protected WiFi network?
:?

To be continued...
