mount: failed to parse mount options

Post by ^rooker »

I have copy/pasted an entry in /etc/fstab from one server to another.
It was mounting a CIFS/Samba share.

When I tried to mount it, I got the following error message:
mount: failed to parse mount options
(Adding "-v" didn't show any additional information :()

I had the options for UserID and GroupID set in my fstab entry:

Code: Select all

// /mnt/windows cifs user,uid=xxx,gid=xxx, ...
But the user and group "xxx" didn't exist on my new server.
Therefore, mount failed to parse the mount options ;)
Jumping out of an airplane is not a basic instinct. Neither is breathing underwater. But put the two together and you're traveling through space!
