Xubuntu >12.04: lock screen turns audio/music off

Post by ^rooker »

[PROBLEM]
It's a known thing, but sadly the change to "light locker" since Xubuntu 14.04 causes audio/music playback to be turned off when the session is locked :(
It's (partially) on purpose, but... *sigh*

The page about "Screen locking on Xubuntu 14.04" (xubuntu.org) lists 3 workarounds:
  1. Set light-locker to lock the session “When the screensaver is deactivated”
  2. Switch back to using xscreensaver
  3. Add your user to the “audio” group on your computer and music playback will continue also with light-locker
I've tried adding my user to "audio" group (being aware of the possible consequences), but it simply didn't change the behavior (Xubuntu 16.04).
This leaves us with only 2 options, whereas I'm not sure if option "a" satisfies my demand to have the screen locked whenever I'm not in front of the computer. Especially on a party, where music is supposed to be playing but I don't want *anyone* to be able to access my computer...

And switching back to xscreensaver doesn't seem like a proper "solution" to me, since other users already complained how "quirky/square/old/ugly" it looks (when it was the standard until v12.04).

[SOLUTION]
No (real one) yet :(

Upgrade to light-locker 1.4.0 (launchpad issue #1296456)
